Mom's Visit

It's fall in Provo. The leaves are changing, its starting to cool off, and I'm already planning my Halloween costume :)

This start fall has been extra special, because I could spend it with my mom. She finally was able to take the opportunity to fly out while I'm here studying at BYU and attend General Conference in Salt Lake City. It is such a blessing to be able to hear the prophets and leaders of the Church share their messages in person. It was a first for mom to attend conference in the new Conference Center, so we were very excited to go.

It was such a beautiful weekend. We truly lucked out. I always prize the memories that I share with my mom. We always have such a good time together. The best part is that our favorite part is just sitting and talking (while enjoying good food). I certainly attribute my skill and love of cooking, which personally is my favorite talent, to her. It's something I know we will always share and love.

I love my family so much. While staying at Grandpa J and Bea's house, mom and I watched the movie, 17 Miracles. It was about both the severe trials and outstanding miracles the pioneers of the Martin and Willie Handcart. My ancestors, the Mellors, were featured in the movie. I have a hard time comprehending the faith they had to endure everything they went through. My Grandpa Jensen and I share those same pioneer roots. I love my Grandpa Jensen so incredibly much, and love being able to visit him while I am living in Utah.

HELLO PROVO! And hello Sophomore year! It is so weird being here again. I'm not going to lie, I miss being a carefree Freshman living in the dorms with a magic meal card. But its time to grow up and be responsible. So far, it hasn't been too bad! Jami and the girls picked me up from the airport and helped me move into my apartment. I also got to celebrate Jami's birthday with her! That's a first!

Courtney and I are finally official roommates! FINALLY! I live at the Colony. I will post pictures of the inside soon!

Justin came to Provo to visit me and Celeste. We had a fun time together, as always.

Summer Snapshots

While making this blog, I realize that I have had the best summer of my life so far. I got to share it with my favorite people and in my favorite places: Family, Friends, and the East Coast. What more can you really ask for?

Summer began in April this year. Its kind of crazy to start summer vacation in the middle of the Spring! But BYU has its finals the third week of April, and luckily Mom and Dad had planned to visit Grandpa Jensen around that time. They were able to pick me up and help me pack up my beloved dorm room. Lets just say it wasn't easy for me to say goodbye to my freshman year. I loved it, along with all the friendships I had made. I was mess, trying to say goodbye to all of my friends, many of whom I wouldn't see for more than two years! Luckily, my best friend, Courtney, was moving out to New Jersey in a few weeks to nanny for a family that only lives 5 miles from my house! So we all said goodbye, knowing that we would be having tons of fun and making new memories in only a short time. After a tearful drive out of Helaman Halls and Provo (give us a break, we really weren't ready to leave!) Courtney dropped me off at my Grandpa's and drove back home to Idaho for a few weeks. I was so grateful to see my sisters and precious little nieces. We all went to the zoo and had a fun time seeing all th

e animals.

The sign says, "Do you live in Cougar Country?" I reply, "HECK YES I DO!"

The next day Mom, Dad, and I boarded the plane and flew back to my home. Oh how I love the East Coast. I love the fact that I'm a true Jersey Girl. There is no other place I would like to claim as my own. So here is the typical rundown of what goes on at home:

Apparently while I was gone, my family developed an obsession of Scrabble. They have a crown and everything that the winner gets to wear while playing the game. Since I rarely can come up with words that are more than 3 letters, I usually just observed them playing.

JERSEY PIZZA!!! My favorite food in the entire world. Jenna and I got some the day after I got home. 4 months is just too long without this food sent from heaven. It is so much fun having Ty, Jenna, and Carter living at home with us. Jenna is not only my sister-in-law, but one of my best friends/running coach/scrapbooking parter/shopping buddy. I also loved playing whiffle ball with my brother. Its so great having him at home again, especially since he isn't a mean tease like he was when we were younger ;). And words cannot describe how much I have loved being so close with one of my nephews. Little Carter was born right as I was going through Security on my way to Utah to start my freshman year. We certainly made up for l

ost time though, and he became my little buddy.

He definitely is a little beach babe! I loved his sunglasses a little more than he did.

And of course, there is no such thing as a summer without my YANKEES!!!!!

I'm not going to lie, this is one of my favorite buildings in the entire world.

Dad and I went to the Yankee-Red Sox game, where the Yankees ended the game with a come-from-behind walk off win!!

We both also got new hats. Dad got his from an official merchandiser, and paid 20 bucks. I on the other hand, bought mine off a black guy in the subway for $5. Haha I just told dad that we both are living within our means :).

Courtney finally arrived to New Jersey! She loved it immediately. The first weekend she was here, we went to New York City!

I also took her to Six Flags. We survived Kingda FREAKIN Ka and many other roller-coasters.

How many people can say they rode an elephant!? I am one of those few people. Court and I went to the NJ State Fair with some of my high school friends. Courtney thought my friends were hilarious and very interesting, to say the least.

We also took Courtney to her first Yankees game. She is a true fan now, despite her family's complaints.

We took a day trip to Philadelphia. Even though I had been to a bunch of these places before, it was so much fun taking Courtney for her first time. It made it exciting for me again.

Dad, Ty, Jenna, and I went to the Yankee-Phillies game.

AND I CAUGHT A FOUL BALL!! Mark Teixeira, my favorite player, hit the ball! Even though I had to wrestle a Phillies fan for the ball, I was the one who walked out of the stadium with it :).

I was shaking for quite sometime because of a mixture of shock and excitement.

I had a great time with the YSA this summer. We truly have a great group on the East Coast. We all took a trip up to Palmyra to visit the sites and see the Hill Cumorah Pageant. My testimony is always strengthened there. I am also reminded of my gratitude for the Prophet Joseph Smith and the early saints.

Our other close friends, Emily Apeland, flew out from Oregon and joined us for a few days. We went to Six Flags, the Shore, and of course, NYC.

We saw the Lion King on Broadway, which was AMAZING.

My favorite part was going to Top of the Rock! Talk about a nice view from above.

My favorite trip of the summer was definitely the Pennsylvania roadtrip with mom. We had THE BEST time together. We went to Longwood Gardens and Amish country. I love my mom so much, and every minute that I spent with her on that trip is treasured.

Courtney and I's last trip extravaganza was to the nation's capital. Thanks to Court's dad, we got to tour both the White House and the Capital Building. How cool is that!? Our trip to Washington D.C. was definitely a great way to end off our summer together.

My last week in Jersey I spent at Girls Camp. I was the Ward Camp Director, and I loved it. The Freehold girls are the best. They always have been, and they always will. I am so happy I was able to become so close with them at camp. It certainly made it even hard to get back on the plane to Utah.

I tried packing Carter in my suitcase, but I was caught. :(

I realized the reason I am so bad at handling change is because I am terrible at saying goodbye. I hate leaving the people I love, even for a short span of a couple of months. I guess its good incentive to live a good life so I can be with the people I love forever. I never want to say a permanent goodbye. I guess I can handle the little ones for now.

So in that case, goodbye Jersey Shore. Goodbye Yankee Stadium. Goodbye good food. Goodbye my lovely family! Goodbye Summer. And goodbye my wonderful New Jersey.

Muse was AMAZING! The concert was absolutely crazy. The lights, lasers, music all added up to the most wild effect. They played all of my favorite songs, even the older ones. Ben and I were rockin out! I also got to see Kariesa, Jared, Scott, and Casey before the show. What a great night!

General Conference

I honestly can say this has been my favorite General Conference weekend ever. Maybe its because for the first time I stayed awake for all four sessions! Or maybe my Living Prophets class helped me appreciate even more. Whichever, I certainly loved it. I learned so much, and enjoyed how the emphasis was on the family. I guess in this changing world, the family is soon going to be the only stable structure in our lives.

I was lucky enough to go to the Sunday Afternoon session in Salt Lake City with my friends. And of course, after it was all over....

Who knew getting so dirty could be so much fun?! I, along with a bunch of my close friends in my ward, went to the Festival of Colors in Spanish Fork. We celebrated the change to spring the Hindu way. Basically, we got to dance and listen to Indian music as we threw dyed flower powder stuff at each other. We got covered!

Ok, so yes, the Red Sox won the first game of the season. But hey! I'm not worried! Im just so happy Yankee season has finally started. Some of my favorite summer memories are of going to Yankee Stadium with my dad! I love the fact that we share the obsession, and I definitely blame him for it. Hopefully this summer I can watch the Yankees beat the Red Sox in person.

Dad....that a was a big hint. :)

If not, I still can't wait to go to the beautiful Yankee Stadium, and hopefully a few others like Camden Yards and Fenway Park. We'll see how this summer goes!

Las Vegas is a crazy place. I LOVED IT! I honestly thought it was hilarious; the people, the casinos, you name it. Walking up and down the strip, I fell in love with the lights and shows. Dont worry! We didn't break the Honor Code down there, even though there were a few close calls!

The drive to Vegas was gorgeous! I love the red rocks! It reminds me of Moab.

I loved all of the lights! My favorite Casino was the New York, New York. We actually watched the BYU basketball game at a bar in that casino. Kind of ironic...cheering for BYU at a bar. I guess not too many Mormons can say that!

Some funny stories:

Walking back around 11 at night, people are already wasted. One guy came up to me and started a convo that went like this:

Guy: Want to come to TI with me?

Me: nope!

Guy: Do you even know what TI is?

Me: nope!

At that point he just laughed as though i was the stupidest person alive. I guess i kind of was unobservant, because we were standing right next to the Treasure Island casino with a huge sign flashing the letters T.I. Oh well, I didn't want to party with him anyway. He didn't leave us alone until i told him we were meeting Courtney's dad. He disappeared pretty quick after that!

Another funny encounter. We were passing two black guys:

Black guys: Hey ladies! Wanna smoke marijuana?? Come get high with us!

Me: No thank you! Not tonight!

Courtney: Thats the first time i've ever been asked to do drugs!

Emily: Me too!

Hahah I told them they handled the situation very well.

The last weekend of February was perfect for me and my dressing up obsessions. On Friday night, Emily, Ben, Taylor, and I went to the Harry Potter dance for Preference. Even though we decided to go last minute, we had a great time. And we pulled off some sweet witches and wizard costumes. I still need to give Taylor back his tie....oops!

Dobby showed up! How perfect!

Emily's roommate Camille literally has a dress up box under her bed, which Courtney and I discovered. I always wanted to be a Disney Princess! And who knows what Courtney was. Emily scared us half to death with Camille's clown mask!

To top it off, Saturday night was a jersey shore part at the loft! Celeste and I dressed up as guidettes with tons of bronzer and poofs in our hair! What can i say, fist pumpin all night!

For Presidents Day weekend, Courtney, Kari, Chelsea, and I took a trip to Idaho! It was cold, but still quite the adventure! I wore snow clothes for the first time, and actually enjoyed being out in the snow. Thats a first! We went sledding at the snow dunes! We thought it would be really cool if we went down a steep hill all together; the four of us on one inner tube. Not the greatest idea. By the time we reached the bottom of the hill, only Courtney remained on the tube. haha no suprises there!

I guess my high school teams at Marlboro with all of their losing records have really make me appreciate BYU athletics. BYU basketball games were so much fun and always rewarding! They won all of their home games with the exception of the last one. Im not sure if I like them more than football games, but I still loved going to all of the games and cheering on my cougars!

Aunt Sue gave me four tickets to the Jazz v Nets game. Courtney, Mark, Chase, and I had a great time (even though my poor Nets got destroyed.)

Although not much of a Nets fan, Chase wasn't afraid to represent Jersey with me! We were two of three Nets fan in the entire arena. (Brook Lopez is totally looking at me in this picture. At least I wish he was!)

home for the holidays

So the Jersey kids packed up and flew out from Salt Lake City. It was fun seeing so many random friends from school flying home for the holidays. We luckily just made it in to New Jersey before the snow storm hit and delayed several flights.

Evan had a mission farewell at his house, and it was nice to see some of the old Freehold kids.

And I absolutely loved seeing some of my nieces and nephews! I met Carter and Brooke for the first time, and it was fun to see how much Jax has grown!

It was so nice being at home and with family. It was such a nice break from school and the BYU bubble! Yet, at the same time, it was nice to go back and start a brand new year!

We also went to the BYU men's basketball game at the Energy Solutions Center in Salt Lake City! BYU won, as their present to me.

We had dinner at Olive Garden, and then spent the night at Whitney's house in Bountiful. We stopped at Nielson's frozen custard on the way, which was so good!

One of my favorite parts of going to BYU are the football games. Yesterday was our last one, but it was a great game to end the home season with! We beat our rivals, the Utes of University of Utah, in overtime!

The best part of the game was storming the field after BYU won!

We had assigned seats for the whole season, and as result made friends with Andrew who sat behind us. He kept us laughing the whole season!

We love BYU football!!

We got mashed in the middle of the football players! But it was totally worth it!

Let the adventure begin!

Whitney and I took a road trip down to St. George for our half marathon. We had a fun time driving down together.

Little did I know I would get my first speeding ticket driving this car...

Of course we need healthy and nutritious snacks on our trip down!

Right before the race began, I saw my cousins Lisa and Kevin. We were shocked! It was good to see them and run with them, and were able to meet up after the finish.

I fell in LOVE with St. George. Snow Canyon is one of the most beautiful places I've been to. It reminded me of Moab!

I saw the St. George Temple, which is also very beautiful.

Such a small world! I ran into my brother-in-law, Jared, at In-N-Out burger on the way home!

Halloween!

The week before Halloween, my friends Ben, Kaile, and Eric and I went to Eric's family's house and had a very nice dinner with an extremely competitive pumpkin carving contest after. Lets just say every one else there had planned ahead and spent hours carving theres, so we were the amateurs. It was kinda embarrassing, but we won the genius award for being clever at least.

They had the coolest Halloween favors, like these cute monster sodas. Ben and I got a kick out of them.

My ward had a fun Halloween party. Kids in my ward were pretty creative with their costumes...

HOMECOMING!

Homecoming 09! Such a fun week! BYU has a bunch of fun activities prior to the homecoming football game. There were activities like Hiking and Lighting the Y, Mr. BYU, dances, etc. I went to some events, but the weekend was my favorite. (Quick side note: if you want to see me publicly humiliated, watch BYU tv. My friend Courtney and I were interviewed after Mr. BYU and we were the dumbest blondes you could ever ask for.)

ANYWAY.

Friday night!

Friday was the night of the dances. My date, Mark, and his group of friends decided to take us to a nice dinner at Macaroni Grill and then the casual dance at The Loft. It was such a fun night! The dance at the Loft was the best dance I've been to so far here at BYU. We were painted with neon body paint that glowed in the black lights when we walked in, so it was such a crazy environment! I loved Mark's friends...they were SO funny!

During one of the slow songs at the dance, one of the BYU football players tried to jokinly cut in while Mark and I were dancing. Mark didn't give in, so I told him he should feel very proud that he fought off a scary Somoan. However, I didn't tell him how disappointed I was that he ruined my opportunity to dance with a BYU football player, even if it was for just a half a second! ;)

Saturday- GAME DAY

Courtney and I ate lunch with her dad, grandpa, and family friend. We went to Iggy's sports bar and grill and happened to run into the entire TCU fan section. It's no fun being engulfed by a Purple Blob!

It was a beautiful night for the game! Too bad it didn't turn out so good. TCU crushed us, but we still managed to have fun at the game.

Costume 5K...80's style!

It's official! Whitney and I are registered for the St George Half-Marathon on November 7th. We are very excited! Meanwhile, between training for it, we've signed up for a couple 5K races. Our first one was a Costume 5K. Whitney and I ran with my friend Kyle. When we left this morning he didn't have a costume. Since Whitney and I were in our 80's outfits from the Loft, we did some quick thinking and threw together a fabulous outfit for Kyle. We picked up a mullet at Rite-aid and then i grabbed my hot pink short shorts and extra headband. Throw it all together and you have the perfect outfit!

We re-enacted our finish. In reality Kyle smoked us, but we all still had a good race! Tina the Fat Lard! I saw my old EFY counselor from two years ago! hahaThese guys won first place for the costume contest. They actually ran in those outfits! When we passed them (haha!) I asked them to "shake it" for us, which they gladly did. They were good sports :)

I think the altitude here is messing with my head or something, because for the first time in my life, I run everyday. for fun. You don't believe me? Trust me, I dont blame you, I wouldn't believe it either. I guess having a running group makes all the difference. We love to run because it is the best possible stress reliever. I run with Courtney, Emily, and Whitney, and we go either real early in the morning or pretty late at night. sorry mom, i'll try and change the night running :) Anyway, we have so much fun on our runs, and I brought my camera one night to prove it.

I met Courtney at Foundations of Leadership Conference before BYU, and we have been inseparable ever since. She is from Idaho, but I don't hold that against her ;) The is always something fun to do at BYU! One day, at the fields right by our dorm, BYUSA hosted a True Blue football event, with blue jello, blue foam, and a blue slip and slide. This resulted with many blue people. I had to take three showers to get it all off, and even then my fingernails were still stained! But man, was it worth it!

Every night I usually hang out in Whitney and Nikki's room and we always have good time. A typical night consists of cereal, laughter, music, and a little craziness!

And of course, there's the creamery! Whenever I can't finish my ice cream I just give it to my friend Parker who always has room for more!

I am so lucky to have such fantastic and fun girls in my hall! Unlike many other floors, such as the other floor thats in our ward, we haven't had any drama or fights. We all love to get together and have a girl's night out once in a while! On wednesday, there was an 80's night at the Loft in downtown Provo. We all got dressed in fun outfits and had one heck of a good time! 1200 taylor girls are the best! :)

General Conference

I admit, although I was dreading the day of moving out to Utah, I've had some pretty amazing opportunities here. So far, the greatest one has been attending General Conference in Salt Lake City. To hear the prophets and apostles' words in person truly is an amazing experience.I went to the Sunday morning session with Nikki and our friends Tommy and Joel. We had AMAZING seats. We were about 11 rows back from the front in the center section. Thanks President Stokes for the great tickets! :) Joel, Nikki, Me, TommyThere were so many protesters! Not that I was suprised. We all actually found them kinda funny. I dont understand why people get so worked up about things they don't understand. Anyway, Joel had an especially good time with them. There was one group of protesters where there were a bunch of women dressed in pioneer clothes, each holding a sign with a name of one of Joseph Smith's wives. The man that was with them was shouting out facts like, "Fourteen year old girls were forced to marry your prophet Joseph Smith!" Joel said to him, "I have a sister who is 14." The protester then asked him, "How would you feel if she married Joseph Smith?" Joel replied, "That would be great! Joseph Smith was a pretty good guy!" Haha I'm not so sure that man got the right impression from his response.
I was very lucky to go to the Sunday afternoon session! My friend Jessica (on the right) invited me last minute because she had an extra ticket. Since I was already in Salt Lake i just stayed. I'm so glad I did because otherwise I would have missed Elder Holland's talk, which was my favorite. Anyway, after conference I went with Elysse (on the left) to her sister's house for my first home cooked meal in weeks! It was so good! :)

Finally! The countdown for home BYU football games is finally over! Even after a disappointing loss against FSU, going to football games is so much fun! It is a crazy environment, and its pretty cool to cheer for the winning team for once. Go Cougars! BYU vs Utah State- night games are the best!

I never thought this day would happen. Me, Larlee Jensen, creating a blog. whaaaat! The only and soul purpose of this is a matter of convenience. I need to stay in touch with family and I wanted to send them pictures. Problem is, I take just way too many pictures that need explaining. As a result, a blog was the only solution. So here is goes...

Well, the Jersey Girls have arrived! Nikki Zimmerman, Celeste Lindeman, and I are in the same family home evening group and ward. For the first monday night at campus we hiked the Y with our ward. Afterwards, we ate pizza and ice cream from the creamery at one of the Bishopric member's house.

Jami and the girls came to visit me a couple weeks after I was settled in. She also hilighted my hair which i was very happy about!
